"Wonderboy" Thompson Wins Before Crowd of 2000

Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson of Simpsonville, South Carolina, USA defeated Kevin "Hitman" Engel by unanimous decision to win the IKF Amateur World Title before a crowd of 2000 at the Palmetto Expo Center on Saturday night. What a great fight in a night full of great fights!

Thompson pummeled Engel who took a standing 8 count in round 2. Again in round 3, Thompson delivered flurries forcing Engel to take 2 more standing 8 counts. Later Thompson landed a spinning side kick in Engel's stomach put Engel down for what looked to be the end, but Engel rose to his feet and continued on, forcing the judges to decide. Judge Ronnie Copeland of North Carolina scored the fight 50-42, Randy Pogue of Pennsylvania scored it 50-42, and Mike Carlson of Georgia scored it 49-45, all in favor of Wonderboy.
